The Meet
I hadn’t been to Denmark but I heard Denmark is the world’s happiest country. I always wondered if that’ was true, that is until I met Soren. Soren is one the few happy Danes I met in Kuala Lumpur, we met at a random event 5 years ago. We both are sociable people due to work mostly. We always had lot of good time talking, poking fun and laughing over everything whenever we see each other at many events. We have never thought we would click so well despite our different cultural background, on top of that we also had a lot in common. LOVE sprouted gradually without us knowing it was love or friendship. The answer became clear when Soren was moving to Hong Kong for work.
The Proposal
Soren is a sensitive and very romantic man, and for sure a well planner. He has planned a proposal at Maldives last February 2015, which I thought it was just another vacation yet another dining on the beach. In fact, Eiffel Tower in France was his plan B. He took me by surprise, because he was not very good in keeping surprise from me. I said YES to the man I wanted to spend my life with, when he got down on one knee, along with his very sentimental yet funny proposal speech (which he claimed to be his new rap – he loves to rap), and the perfect ring on a beautiful island. Did I say Soren is a well planner? Right after the proposal, he said he has a plan for our wedding date and venue when I was still on cloud nine!
The Glamorous Wedding In Kuala Lumpur
I believe most girls have a dream wedding; Mine was a cozy garden wedding. Apparently, Soren’s suggestion inspired me to host our wedding at Marini’s on 57 floor overlooking a magnificent Kuala Lumpur skyline. In fact, we were the first couple had a wedding reception at Marini’s. I agreed to the gourmet food & wine dining, fantastic view and for convenience sake to our guests as most of them are based in Malaysia plus it was a good year-end holiday’s excuse to our guests from the west to escape the winter chill.
A dreamy wedding – some would say black or white is not a colour, but they are our favorite colours. We believe white symbolizes faith while black embodies elegant. Grey colour was added into our colour palate as “compromise” between both our favorite colours. We also added touches of gold & silver to bring out the extravagance to the theme. Along with many candles, many flowers and a wishing tree set a dreamy yet magical mood. We exchange vows at an artificial garden on 57th floor witnessed by the Petronas Tower, then proceed to a 5 course Italian menu with wine overlooking KL skyline.
Every moment of our wedding day was special to us, especially the march on the aisle certainly touched our hearts when we were surrounded by our families and closest friends to celebrate our love reunion at such a beautiful wedding set-up. The sentimental moment was further enhanced by Adele song “Make Me Feel Your Love” performed live by one of our good friends Dennis Lau on his violin. It was an overwhelming moment that brought us to tears.
Our amazing wedding was made personal and even more intimate by the involvement of many so talented friends – from Kevin Chong (Traxx FM radio announcer) was our emcee, singing by Poova (Malaysian born singer) she also performed our first dance song called I Found You was one of her songs in her debut album, my beautiful evening gown was designed by Keith Kee (Malaysian born fashion designer) and honored to have our good friend Dato’ Professor Jimmy Choo specially made shoes.
As mentioned previously, Soren loves rap and he even enjoys rapping himself occasionally. So I decided to surprise him by rapping “Your Love” by Nicki Minaj. It was my first rap which I’ve practiced for months. I was little nervous at first but my heart immediately warmed up when I saw the look on his face. It was priceless!
Honestly, planning an intimate wedding wasn’t as easy as I thought, hence wedding planner is highly recommended especially our wedding took place in another country. We had a few break-downs before our wedding as we tend to strike for perfection, but we stuck together and promised to take things much lighter, laughed at things that didn’t go as planned. After all, we weren’t holding an event to impress anyone but it was about the love we shared and the vows we said, everything else was a bonus. With that belief, we had made the most out of it. Our wedding was one of the BEST days of our life!
