Although it was a chilly day in Baguio City, things were very different inside the St. Ignatius Chapel for this lovely couple with their friends and family. Actress-singer Saab Magalona and musician Jim Bacarro tied the knot on January 25 in Baguio, Philippines, with an absolutely chic and intimate wedding. Yet, it was peppered with geeky details, perpetuated by Jim and Saab’s love for comics, books and superheroes.
About their proposal, it was just as nerdy too. As reported on Interaksyon, “He said ‘I’ve been waiting for the right moment to ask you…’ I was already crying before he got down on one knee and brought something out from his pocket. I saw a silver Spiderman keychain (my favorite Marvel superhero) and my heart stopped. I was thinking OMG IS THIS NOT A MARRIAGE PROPOSAL?! I’M GONNA DIE hahaha and then I saw the ring attached to the keychain. That’s when he said ‘I love you. Will you marry me?’ and of course I said YES!!,” Saab further shared. Prior to getting engaged, the couple had been together for three years.
The invitation was geeked out with an illustration of Jim and Saab as a superhero which is totally cool, but there’s one detail that totally touched our hearts and absolutely cute to boot. “I made these (boutonnières) myself from my old and beloved Archie comics,” said “Some people are outraged about the fact I cut up some pages of comic books, but I grew up with these comics. I have so many, and I thought of it as recycling something that was dear to me. Something new out of something old.”
“Our event stylist’s parents happened to have a lot of old medical books”Saab added. “As soon as I told my stylist that I wanted it to be a library theme but that I didn’t want any books harmed, she said, ‘Perfect, my parents’ medical books got flooded in the garage last year!’ She only nailed the hard covers to the backboard. The pages, though yellow and mostly unreadable, were untouched.”
“If we had a theme it was more of ‘Jim and Saab’s favorite things,'” she said. “I love books, he loves superheroes. It was all chop suey, but we were lucky it ended up coming together nicely.”
